Motion tells us that music has always run in his family; his granddad was a classical composer and performer and apparently owns a bizarre collection of retro wooden Harpsichords that he keeps in his basement: “My uncle was also a keen music lover being a top 40’s DJ since the start of the ‘60s right through to the present day. He has a record collection of over 100,000 rare 7″ as well as thousands of CDs!” explains Motion, obviously keen to point out the size of his family’s musical wang.

Citing his brother’s love of electronic music as the reason for becoming corrupted by the DJing and producing bug, his first studio set up being a set of pots and pans stolen from the kitchen and his brother’s guitar effects pedal! Soon it was time to take things more seriously and with only a slightly more hi-tech studio he created five tracks of which two were instantly snapped up by J Majik for Infrared.

It has been some years since and Motion has been hiding away in his studio, quietly making emotive Drum & Bass that satisfies his artistic expression, but now cool cats such as ASC and Xposure owner DJ XO are picking up on the sound he’s made his own. It’s his love of mixing D&B and organised religion that’s really exciting him though:

“I have sampled religious vocals in the past which sounded great, only being caught out after, finding out the words translated into ‘Moses led the Hebrews to the Red Sea, where they made unleavened bread, which is bread made without any ingredients’ Although I am thinking about starting up the church of drum and bass, where people would come down on a Sunday and discuss the recent bassline developments in the week and to enforce the 10 D&B commandments.”
