Brian Abbey
Listen to “Never Far From Right (Subsonik Mix)” (XPUE001)
Brian Abbey (not to be confused with Brian Adams) is without doubt one of the most elusive and mysterious characters in the Xposure story. Little is known about this shadowy figure that hides behind a shroud of perpetual anonymity and perplexing myspace quotes:
“Inspiration is a funny thing; you never know when or where it’s going to hit you. Driving down the road, watching the sunset or sunrise, going through a break-up, losing someone close to you, having the adventure of a lifetime, the moment you realize that you’ve fallen in or out of love with someone. Life happens and music is an expression of perceptions and feelings that cannot be conveyed by words alone. Some words I live by: Live with Intention, walk to the edge. Listen hard. Laugh. Practice wellness and play with abandon. Continue to learn. Appreciate your friends. Choose with no regret. Do what you love and above all else, live as if this is all there is.”
Interesting stance Mr Abbey, but what else can we find out about you? Nothing, zip, zilch… nada! So instead we turn to the world of fiction and make believe, like lost children wandering through an endless dreamland of fabricated facts. Brian Abbey helped create the incredibly brilliant ‘Never Far From Right’ alongside vocalist Aaron Simpson and remixer of choice Subsonik (this fact is not fabricated), he enjoys long walks in the countryside and once won a signed copy of a Des O’Connor album at a church fete.

I certainly wouldn’t consider myself mysterious or shadowy, but then again I haven’t really given you much to go on. So, hows about I’ll give you a few nuggets of information so you can be a part of my world…
I am actually the vocalist and the producer on the song Never Far From Right. Aaron Simpson was a crucial part of the production and the arrangement, but he has not yet lent his vocal talents to any track to my knowledge.
Usually I do not produce D&B; my style tends to be much more down-tempo, although I do love some drum and bass. That being said, there is an interesting story to go with the song. I originally wrote it with piano at about 85 bpm with some electronic drums and a little synth bass. I was out at a club late one Friday night, and bumped into my friend Trona (Sam, formerly of Moonshine), and showed him the track at about 2 am. He started geeking out and told me we had to go to the studio and do a D&B remix ‘RIGHT NOW’! So we drove up to my studio and worked on it til about 6 am, although didn’t get much accomplished. Me being the not-so-D&B-savvy-guy that I am, I called up Aaron who came over shortly thereafter - and that’s when the track actually happened. See, that’s not so shadowy and mysterious, eh?
I wrote the song about an ex, if you can’t tell from the lyrics, and I’ve distanced myself from it is that I’ve gotten engaged to the most wonderful girl I’ve ever met, and want to leave that story behind me. I actually have an album in the works that will be ready as soon as its done, and you’ll be hearing more about her when it comes out.
A few other factoids, for those who are still reading:
anything else you wanna know? just ask, til then, I’m out ~
